THE KING STONE R&D BY CHARLOTTE EAST (2023)
DIRECTED BY HANNAH STONE
A haunted love story.
What is home? For Phil it’s the stars – they’re safe, out of reach and always reliable. For Kristen this place is just a house, she wants more! Forever connected in their search for a mysterious figure said to wander the peaks, the couple meet every Sunday over 20 years. In a town where ‘Man-Up’ is a term of endearment, can this pair let go of expectation and find their true sense of home?
“The King Stone came through our ideas submissions window and we instantly knew we were on to something special. A play set locally, talking about growing up rurally with the pull/push of home and the ‘otherness’ of the big city(/ies), about connections to the land and each other, simultaneously intimate and epic. A play about male mental health which recognises the emotional labour performed by women in a world which has unrealistic expectations of all genders. I’m really excited to see where it goes.”
